MOD caddy box and drink pouch

Cupholders are the #1 thing people whinge about with the Jimny. I personally haven’t found it too bad, but I do find the two drink holders in the centre console a bit limiting. I don’t often have too much need for drinks when driving, but it would be nice to store various things in there.

Fortunately, the MOD caddy and drink pouch is a good combination to slot in there and expand your storage and also give you another drink holding option. It perfectly fits the 800 mL water bottle I use and gives me two larger storage areas in the centre console.

Installation is super easy and even doing it my way (not the recommend way by MOD) took me about 5 minutes.

First off, you want to position it on the centre console with the seats in a regular position.

Since the seats in the Jimny are a little asymmetric between drivers and passengers side, and the centre consoles never seem to perfectly sit centred in the car, it isn’t as simple as just placing it in the dead centre of the console and calling it a day.

The MOD installation includes some self tapping screws which would make it super easy to install, however, I elected to add some rivnuts and bolt it in with 3 M4 bolts to suit the rivnuts I put in. This isn’t mandatory, I just did it because I could (and I prefer using threaded inserts for something that might come in and out a few times: the centre console is removed to adjust the handbrake, after all).

If doing it this way, use a pilot bit to get the screw holes in the right spot and then enlarge to 6mm to suit an M4 countersunk rivnut.

Add the rivnut and set it with your chosen rivnut tool.

Repeat 3 times and you have 3 nice threaded inserts into your centre console.

Screw down the caddy and you’re almost there.

Put in the caddy tote with its divider and that’s the main bit done.

On the back there’s a little bent out bracket part which hooks onto the MOD water bottle pouch perfectly, which is the best part. Suddenly you’ve massively expanded your centre console and you have a better sized water bottle holder, too!

From above it really shows how much more storage this change adds.

Even better, you can use the shoulder strap for the water bottle pouch with the caddy inner and have a handy little carry pouch, too. Super useful!
