Jimny fuses: what circuits are protected/controlled by what?

As these cars age a bit more, increasingly people are hitting blown fuses/circuits not working etc. This page is about trying to unravel what is controlled by what and where things are.

Fuse (and relay) box locations

Need some photos here, but there are two main fuse locations

1. Under bonnet (with a bunch of relays; a couple hide off in an additional box to the side)

2. In the footwell of the car (passenger side)

Some modules can have independent fuses buried inside them or accessed on their back, and, there are very high current fusable links integrated into the battery terminal (pictured in a moment)

Fuses and what they protect

For compatibility, I’ve stuck to official Suzuki numbering that matches the labels on fuse covers.

Under-bonnet

Battery terminal fuses

Note that if you connect items with high current draw (e.g. winches) to the fused side of the terminal you risk blowing those fuses. Sucks to blow a main fuse during a winch pull… separately fused accessories can also go directly to the +ve battery terminal as their fuses will protect the wiring directly.

Fuse and relay box

The extra headlight relay box contains up to 4 relays; auto headlight on models appear to only populate and use 2 of these. Presumably this is because the BCM does the headlight switching, rather than the headlight switch on the steering column itself, and so it accommodates full negative switching directly of the headlights. These relays are not numbered in any official documentation for cross reference purposes hence no numbering here.

Need to check up the things contained in this cause it is separate to the main fuse compartment…

Passenger compartment

Some of these circuits control relays inside the BCM/wiring junction box itself; presumably these are solid state and/or integrated to the circuitry.
